David M. Castro, M.D.

Dr. Castro received his degree in Physiology/Exercise Physiology at the University of California, Davis and received his Doctorate of Medicine at the University of California Davis. He completed both his internship and residency at the Creighton/Nebraska Health Foundation in Omaha, Nebraska. Dr. Castro is a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He is also a member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA)-a peer-elected society for orthopedists dedicating their practice to arthroscopic and minimally-invasive surgery. Dr. Castro is the only AANA member in the northern California region beyond Sacramento. Dr. Castro serves as an Associate Master Instructor for the Arthroscopy Association of North America in hip and shoulder arthroscopy for the Orthopedic Learning Center in Chicago, IL. He is named in the 2007 Global Directory of Who's Who.

Dr. Castro specializes in arthroscopic and minimally-invasive surgery. Areas of expertise include treatment of sports-related injuries, knee, shoulder, and hip arthroscopy as well as quadriceps-sparing MIS total and partial Knee Replacement. Quadriceps-sparing knee replacement allows patients to return home on the day of surgery or the following day to convalesce in a more comfortable environment. Dr. Castro also performs Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation and Meniscal Transplants. Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation involves restoration of cartilage defects utilizing patients' own cartilage (www. Carticel.com). Dr. Castro is one of the pioneers of hip arthroscopy and has been performing the procedure for over 13 years. There are currently many arthroscopic options for hip pain in young, active individuals that were unavailable as recently as 5 years ago.

As a former triathlete, Dr. Castro realizes the importance of a rapid return to sports and activities and makes every effort to tailor patients' workouts so that they minimize periods of inactivity while maximizing recovery and providing successful outcomes.

Dr. Castro is also pleased to offer surgery at St. Elizabeth's Community Hospital in Red Bluff in addition to Chico facilities.
